Construction and Detours

The Sand Creek Regional Greenway is a dynamic trail always striving to meet the needs and desires of nearby communities and trail users. The trail may experience closures or detours due to projects like the installation of signage or public art, trail restoration and habitat enhancements, and roadway and stormwater projects.

With your patience and support, we will provide the best experience possible as we wind through our diverse environment that includes industrial areas, new development, mature neighborhoods, and natural habitat.

Active or planned construction and detours on the Greenway

Active

  • Recent rainstorms caused erosion to the north bank of the soft surface trail in the Denver section near the Urban Farm Boundary. The trail is open for use however fencing is in place to keep trail users safe. Please use this portion of the trail with caution. Updates will be available in future weeks.

Planned

  • CDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in conjunction with local partners Adams County and Commerce City, are proposing improvements to 6 miles of Interstate 270 (I-270) in Adams County, Commerce City, and the City and County of Denver, Colorado between Interstate 25 (I-25) and Interstate 70 (I-70)

The Proposed Action would include mainline, interchange, bridge, drainage, multi-modal, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements that modernize the I-270 corridor and directly address the project needs.

There are three access points within the study area. These include The Dahlia Trailhead at the intersection of 56th Avenue and Sand Creek Drive, the Wetland Park Loop trailhead at the east end of E. 52nd Avenue, and the corner of 50th Avenue and Pontiac Street. All the named access points are on the south side of I-270.

Closures and detours within this project along the Greenway will include O’Brian/Burlington Ditch, Brighton Boulevard/East 60th Ave., Union Pacific Railroad/East 60th Ave, Vasquez Boulevard, and East Dahlia Trailhead.

More information will become available when project start dates have been established
