Our mission is to promote curiosity, environmental awareness, and community health through stewardship and experiences with an urban greenspace that offers equitable access and connection to the diverse habitats, communities, places, and cities thriving along the Sand Creek Regional Greenway.
The Sand Creek Regional Greenway (SCRGP) Stewardship Program consists of the SCRGP Staff Volunteer Program Coordinator and the Sand Creek Stewards.
The purpose of this program is to allow the SCRGP to set more ambitious goals to reach a larger number of community members through the assistance of Sand Creek Stewards.
Stewards are onboarded for one year at a time and must re-apply or express their interest in staying a Steward after one year of service.
Sand Creek Stewards eligibility:
Stewards must...
Be 16 years of age or older
Consent to signing all associated Volunteer Waivers for the SCRGP and city partners
Commit at least two hours of availability for program duties a month
Be comfortable interacting with participants of SCRGP programming and members of the public
Attend one Volunteer Steward Orientation on an annual basis
Attend one SCRGP DEI training on an annual basis
Uphold the SCRGP values and support the SCRGP mission
Commit to volunteering at 2 SCRGP Special Events a year (see list of events in list below)
Description of potential Steward duties
SCRGP Events that Stewards may be asked to attend and assist with:
SCRGP Special Event Facilitation including;
A Night on the Greenway annual August Fundraiser
SCRGP Summer Series
The SCRGP Mural Festival
SCRGP Monthly Volunteer Workdays
SCRGP Outreach or Engagement events
SCRGP Education Program events
SCRGP Specialized Work Crew organization and deployment assistance
Special trainings offered to Volunteer Program participants or Volunteer Stewards including but not exclusive to:
-CPR Certification Trainings
-Guided Plant ID Trainings
-Leave No Trace Trainings
Assistant duties associated with the above list of events could be any of the following:
Performing check-in or check out duties for accountability and tracking purposes of event participants
Arriving to events early for Setting Up or staying after and event for Breaking Down of event materials
Table-manning for a variety of purposes
Answering questions from program participants or members of the public
Working with participants on understanding the objective of an event and organizing participants during activities
Benefits of Serving as a Steward:
Those serving as Stewards for the SCRGP receive incentives and perks for their commitment
SCRGP funded CPR and First Aid course, held annually
Community Leadership and Stewardship experience
Increased networking opportunities with SCRGP Staff, city partners, corporate partners, and like-minded community members
Input into future SCRGP events and projects
Free SCRGP swag

The next SCRGP Orientation for Stewards will be Thursday, May 30th, from 4:30-6:30pm, in a hybrid setting. Onsite participants will meet at the SCRGP offices at 7350 E. 29th Ave. Suite 300 Denver, CO 80238. This training is required for Sand Creek Stewards.
