September Volunteer Workday

September 9th (9am-12pm): SCRGP partnership with Xcel Day of Service, Open to community members like you!

Register for the Event Here. using SCRGP’s link.

Date: Saturday, September 9th

Time: 9am-12pm (Come for as long or little as you like)

Location: Wetland Park Trailhead, 6102 E. 52nd Ave. Commerce City 80022 (use Google Maps for accurate location) The parking lot is small, and carpooling is recommended when possible.

Project Work: Adding crush refine to the sides of our trails’ paved segment to make the trail level with the surrounding landscape. The goal of this work is to reduce the chances of tripping or stumbling from an uneven surface. We will also remove litter, work in the Pollinator Garden, and do some weeding along the trail!

Tasks associated with the crush project could be: filling wheelbarrows with crush using shovels, walking the wheelbarrows to dumping points along the trail, raking the crush to settle and smooth it out to the level of the trail.

Provisions and Volunteer Preparedness: Closed-toe shoes, work gloves, a reusable water bottle, and sunscreen are heavily recommended.

We have a supply of work gloves available to loan to volunteers who do not have a pair already as well!

The SCRGP will bring water coolers for volunteers to refill their bottles, work gloves to loan, and likely bagels and coffee to snack on!

We will be spreading fresh crush along the trail, picking up litter, working in the pollinator garden, and doing some light weeding! .
