Havana Street at Smith Road Closed

Beginning as early as May 17, Denver Transit Partners will begin construction on Havana Street between Smith Road and 37th Avenue in Denver, about 1/2 mile away from our Smith Road Trailhead. There will be ONE LANE going south along Havana from the railroad tracks at Smith Road to just past the Women’s Jail. AND there will be ONE LANE going west along Smith Road from Moline to Havana going west only! See below to read the full press release issued by RTD. 

A complete closure of north bound traffic on Havana Street at the railroad crossing between Smith Road and 37th Avenue will occur. A complete closure of east bound traffic on Smith Road starting at Havana Street just south of the railroad crossing between Havana and Peoria also will occur.

To get to our Smith Road Trailhead, west of Havana on Smith Road, go west on Smith Road to Havana and CAREFULLY continue west along Smith Road when there is no construction activity.

Although Havana street will be closed going north – and completely closed at the railroad tracks, the trailhead will remain open and accessible via Smith Road.

Beginning as early as May 17, the Regional Transportation District’s contractor for the East Rail Line, Denver Transit Partners (DTP), will begin construction on Havana Street between Smith Road and 37th Avenue. A complete closure of Havana Street at the railroad crossing between Smith Road and 37th Avenue will occur. Work is scheduled to be completed within 60 days.

Northbound traffic on Havana Street (toward Smith Road) between Florence Way and 37th Avenue will be prohibited. Northbound drivers are advised to find an alternate route to their destination. Southbound traffic on Havana Street (toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) will be detoured on 37th Avenue to Peoria Street and onto Smith Road. Eastbound traffic on Smith Road between Havana Street and Moline Street will be prohibited. Westbound traffic on Smith Road will continue using Smith Road. Please comply with posted detour signs.

A public meeting to discuss this construction activity will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Stapleton Foundation, located at 7350 E. 29th Avenue, Suite 300, Denver, CO 80238 at 5:30 p.m.
