14 Mile “On Your Own” Challenge!

November 5, 2020

Update–November 17–The Challenge has formally launched, and we invite YOU to take part!

We’re excited to announce a new challenge for you to get out and explore all 14 miles of our Sand Creek Greenway–and earn your own “14” Sunflower Patch! Let’s get outside!

November and December are great months to explore the Greenway as it winds through Aurora, Denver and Commerce City. Bike it, walk it or run it or a combination of all three! This is a challenge you can do with your family, with a friend or completely on your own. You can do it in one, two, three or four segments (or more, really); this is a super-flexible and completely personalizable challenge. It is FREE and if you complete it according to instructions–while supplies last–we’ll send you a patch to commemmorate your achievement!

While supplies last, complete the 14 miles of our Greenway and earn this patch!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Email us at SCRGPstaff@sandcreekgreenway.org
and tell us you want to do the challenge.
We’ll respond with an email with the complete instructions, and here are the highlights:

To get started, we’ll need the name, mailing address, (so we can mail the patch!) age and email address of each participant.

We’ll email you links to trail maps and four “assignments” you must complete–such as telling us about a specific part of the trail or taking a photo (we love selfies!) that we can share with others. “Take a photo of your favorite animal at Star K Ranch (or inside or outside Morrison Nature Center)” or “A bench just west of the Triple Creek trailhead is in memory of ‘George,’ what’s George’s last name?” or “Take a photo of your favorite part of the mural.” Yes, they’re THAT simple! And to make it even easier, for each of the four segments you have your CHOICE of assignment!

Send us an email with the dates you worked on the challenge, where you started and stopped, and your completed “assignments.”

You’ll also need to download, complete and email the SCRGP waiver to us. (see below)

We’ll comfirm your completion and mail your patch with a certificate of completion!

Want to get a headstart planning your challenge? Follow this link to our four trail segment maps. And here’s a brochure to download on the challenge with more details on assignments!

The “14” Sand Creek Greenway Sunflower Patch Challenge is ON!

About the Greenway

The Sand Creek Regional Greenway is a jewel in the necklace of trails that has made Denver a national model for linked trail systems.

This 14-mile public greenway connects the High Line Canal in Aurora, Colorado with the South Platte River Greenway in Commerce City. Along the way, it passes through northeast Denver and the new Stapleton community.

The Sand Creek Regional Greenway is open every day from dawn until dusk. Runners, walkers, nature viewers, horseback riders, and leashed dogs are encouraged to enjoy the trail. We invite you to become acquainted with our wilderness in the city.
